Ted Davies is a multi-instrumentalist and audio engineer based out of Denver, Colorado. Ted graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in May 2023, with a degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance. While at UNC, Ted performed in the award-winning Compass Jazz Orchestra (formerly Lab 1), sharing the stage with the likes of Carmen Bradford, Melissa Aldana, Wayne Bergeron, Rachel Price, and more. Ted wrote two arrangements for the album “Carmen sings Carmen”, recorded with Carmen Bradford and the Compass Jazz Orchestra in February 2023. Ted also won the 2023 Downbeat Award for Large Jazz Ensemble Composition for their composition “The Shadows’ Dance” off their debut album Trail Rider released in November 2022.

Upon moving to Denver post-graduation, Ted founded Teddy Westside Productions LLC, a recording and music production studio for artists of all genres looking for a space to experiment with their music and make lasting musical connections. Ted has recorded and mixed artists including May Be Fern, Goodnight Freeman, the Allison Young Quartet, Stoney Brook, The Playwr!tes, and others. You can find Ted running sound at different venues across the Denver Metro area and playing with different bands including Dr Lunch, The Spillionaires, and more. When they’re not making music, Ted loves to hang out with their fiance Ella and their cat Madelie, going hiking and camping in the mountains, and grilling burgers in the backyard.

The TWP Story

When Ted was in high school in Fort Collins in the late 2010s, they were starting a band and needed demos for said band to send to prospective venues. They wanted to record their own demos, but didn’t really know where to start. After some research (and a lengthy backstage conversation with the late jazz pianist Chick Corea), Ted bought a couple SM57s and a cheap audio interface and went all in. Fast forward to summer 2020. Now attending the University of Northern Colorado and with the coronavirus pandemic in full swing, Ted spent the spring and summer as a delivery driver and used all the money they saved up to buy their first Mac - and Logic Pro. Spending the following summer and school year making beats and recording themselves and their 4 roommates, Ted slowly started to realize that music production was in fact a true passion and not just a hobby.

Heavily influenced by mentors Greg Heimbecker and Dr. Socrates Garcia, Ted started to take on more and more ambitious recording projects. Converting the living room of the house they were living into a makeshift recording studio, this was where the idea of Teddy Westside Productions was born: to create high quality recordings of all genres in a space where musicians feel at home. In early 2023 Ted paired up with Denver vocalist and bassist Kate Fern to write and record “Good Grit” - the first single Ted recorded, mixed, and mastered in-house. One of Ted’s bands, To Be Determined, recorded their self titled debut album in the Greeley house.

Ted graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in May 2023 with a bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies. Moving to Denver with some of their best friends, Ted spared no time converting their basement den into an acoustically treated space with professionally producing music in mind. Ted officially started Teddy Westside Productions LLC in August 2023. In November 2023 Ted’s fiance Ella moved to Denver and bought a house; Ted indubitably moved in shortly after. Ted currently works mixing and mastering recordings for local bands and artists, recording live shows in conjunction with their work as a live sound engineer, as well as producing their own original music.
